Galería Marta Cervera is pleased to announce Mirrors, with works by Michael Berryhill, Max Brand, Ludovica Carbotta and Gorka Mohamed, for the first digital edition of ARCOmadrid.
Mirrors is a double exhibition, a multiplicity of works that seems to duplicate in space, still conserving their singularity. On the front wall, ‘Wonder Down Under’, a large painting by Michael Berryhill opens the exhibition, and on its reverse three drawings by Ludovica Carbotta, part of the Telamons series.
A transversal wall divides the space, and at both sides, back to back are placed two bas-reliefs by Ludovica Carbotta, portraying two couples of characters from her series ‘The Telamons’ (Paustin und Austena Telamon & Favst und Felicia Telamon). ‘The Telamons’ characters compose a family saga inspired by the fantastic novel by Adolfo Cáseres ‘The Invention of Morel’, 1940, evolved into a text written by the artist in which she describes the way each member of the family struggles with the loss of their memory. Two other works from this series are placed in the lateral walls, both untitled.
On both sides of a same wall there are two large paintings by Max Brand, both untitled as well, where the artist unveils an array of figures and colors that fuse in several layers and materials in a rich painterly universe.
The scenes in both spaces are complemented by Gorka Mohamed portraits of the absurdity of the human condition, injecting some humor into the illusion.
I agree to receive electronic communications about ARCOmadrid, and ARCOLisboa.
