In the second edition of E-XHIBITIONS we present “Investigations of a Goldfish”, the first solo exhibition by Carlos Arteiro at NO·NO.
„Carlos told me about his little black fish - a studio companion - that had imposed not only the need for care but that had also determined, precisely because of the commitment in favor of the physiological rhythm of the little creature, the creation of another rhythm, now human, of daily travel and attendance to that place so essential to artistic practice, where thought wanders and experiences the thickness of another time, abandoning one’s head and becoming one’s hand, so as to participate freely in the assembly of the real.
If we believe in the indifference that any domestic fish can have towards what is beyond its bowl, we will be sorely mistaken to realize that Carlos's showed him exactly the opposite. Perhaps out of benign envy, perhaps out of pure contamination of postures and actions, that little black fish also began to transform itself, in his case through the only thing at hand - his own body -, slowly transforming himself into an excellent golden swimmer. .
